Czech Noise Research Laboratory

Czech laboratory for electrical noise is oriented on the research of new ways and methods of determining the reliability and estimation of service life of components for electronics. Other methods and procedures for non-destructive diagnostics of electronic components and materials are developed as well, aside from the research focused on electrical noise. Development of models for electrical components is also an important part of the effort.

Impedance analyser

Alpha analyzer Novocontrol.

The Alpha-AT analyser (Novocontrol, Germany) is a commercially available device for measuring dielectric spectra in the interval 3e-5 - 4e7 Hz (i.e., about 12 orders of magnitude) with an impedance range of 0.01 to 10e14 ohm. The Alpha analyser enables, among other things, continuous automated measurements over the entire frequency interval and under programmable temperature changes.

The system is the most advanced and comprehensive measurement device in the field of dielectric spectroscopy. It allows measurement over a frequency range of 12 decimals of parameters such as capacitance, conductivity, loss factor, resistance.

If we would like to use the same frequency range from other manufacturers, it would be necessary to purchase at least 2-3 instruments.

This instrument is used by the dielectric spectroscopy group to analyse materials and their dielectric properties. This is mainly to determine the dipole moment, activation energy and loss number. This instrument is used in conjunction with a cryogenic system, which allows a comprehensive dielectric characterisation of the materials. Currently, the instrument is used on CCTO materials, which are promising materials for the production of high capacitance capacitors.

Baseband analyser

Baseband analyser 36.

The basic parameters of this analyser are frequency range 10 mHz - 1MHz, dual channel measurement capability, high/low input impedance selection, self-noise level 3 nV/√Hz, Dynamic range of 130 dB. Suppression of disruptive harmonic components should be better than 50 dBc except 3rd harmonic where suppression is expected > 70 dBc. Includes GPIB and LAN communication interface including interface for external monitor connection. Allows spectrum processing with FFT expected to be used, integrated aliasing filter is a must, with memory expansion for samples with a depth of at least 200 Ms.

The considered analyser is used to study low-frequency electronic noise and fluctuation processes. For this reason, a minimum intrinsic noise and a frequency range extending into the millihertz region are required. Apparently, the only suitable device concept is to analyse the signal directly in the baseband. In engineering practice, this equipment is also used to monitor modulation signals of analogue and digital systems.
